Beauty In Diversity

Beauty In Diversity

There’s a lot of darkness coming to light in the world right now, and it can be tough to feel united. It can feel daunting to continue fighting for what's right, to continue being a light in a world that seems so dark. With so many sick and cruel things happening in the world, it sometimes feels like it won't ever get better. And in a lot of ways, choosing to focus on the good when the bad is too heavy, is the only way to stay afloat. I believe that if we stick together, we can preserve this beautiful place.

I found myself feeling down and if I'm being totally honest, depressed. All I want in life is for us to be united, for love to triumph and for the Collective to be healed. I want good for every single person, I want us to stand together and fight for equality. When I feel myself shying away from being a voice for those who need it, I turn to creativity. I find comfort and clarity in being able to express myself this way.

When I was 10, I remember my mom telling me that we were all created to be different and that it was more than ok if I didn't fit in, which I rarely did as a young girl. I was insecure, a little quirky and definitely danced to the beat of my own drum. And normally that was fulfilling, but sometimes being an insecure little girl could also be very lonely. I remember asking my mom why I was so different, and she reassured me that we were supposed to be different, that's what made each one of us special. I sat with that for a minute and then responded with "Well, if we are all supposed to be different, then by definition being different is actually being normal. And to fit in or be the same as everyone else, well that's different." It made a lot of sense to my 10 year old self and over the years I've clung to that thought anytime I needed a reminder that who I am is enough. And now I create jewelry that serves as a tangible reminder of that very thing.

This line of jewelry was inspired by the differences throughout mankind and created a couple years ago to serve as a reminder that there’s beauty in diversity and beauty in our differences. We are all different shapes, sizes and colours, and that’s truly a beautiful thing! How boring life would be if we were all the same. I used mixed metals, shapes and sizes to reflect those differences and showcase that when our differences come together, it creates a beautiful thing!
