I grew up in smaller communities. I grew up in the beautiful, yet somewhat barren, landscape of the Saskatchewan prairies, and I know it can be limiting when it comes to entertainment. I know what it feels like when there isn’t much happening unless you drive somewhere else.
So when people ask if I’ll travel to host a workshop, the answer is usually yes.
Not because it’s convenient, but I do love a good road trip. And meeting new people. Most importantly, because YOU matter; connecting and fostering community matters.
Creative experiences shouldn’t be reserved for bigger cities. You don’t need fancy venues or elaborate setups, but I love those too! All you need is a few tables, somewhere to sit and people willing to slow down. That's it.
I’ve hosted in living rooms, shops, screen rooms, shared spaces, backyards, gymnasiums and community halls. The setting changes. The heart of it doesn’t.
A group gathers. Someone says they’re “not artistic.” Someone else already knows exactly what they’re making. Someone has come with several designs. By the end, everyone has something on their wrist and a slightly different energy than when they walked in.
That’s enough for me.
If you’re reading this from a smaller town and thinking, we could use something like that here, reach out.
You don’t need a big production. You just need a reason to gather.
